The Circle of Fifths Chart. The circle of fifths is a chart that summarizes the relationship between major and minor scales and displays all the key signatures into one easy to understand diagram. The outside are the major keys in uppercase letters. Each major key is associated with a relative minor key in lowercase letters. Both share the same. The Circle Of Fifths. The circle of fifths is a tool used by musicians and songwriters to find the number of sharps or flats are in a key. This is vital to know and should be memorised for fast key recognition. As you’re moving clockwise around the circle, keys jump up by a fifth (hence the name). The circle of fifths can seem a little overwhelming at first, but you will soon realize how easy it really is to understand! Deciphering the Circle The circle of fifths is the relationship among the 12 tones of the chromatic scale, their corresponding key signatures, and the associated major and minor keys. The circle itself shows how many sharps or flats there are in each key, and the key signatures are on the edge. This is called the Circle of Fifths because each note is a perfect fifth away from another. A perfect fifth is the distance of 7 notes tones: A, A#, B, C, C#, D, D#, E. Printing These Music Theory Circle of Fifths Handouts and Worksheets
All of the printable music theory handouts and worksheets on this page are designed for a printer's typical default “Portrait” setting using U.S. letter-size paper (8-1/2'x11') with a 1' margin on all sides - with no adjustments needed.
For best results, use your printer's highest print quality settings and high quality paper. Lower settings and inexpensive copy paper also work, of course.
IMPORTANT: Printers can widely vary, as I'm sure you know. I've tested these handouts and worksheets files with several printers and computers, as well as various printer settings, and they've printed just fine with no adjustments needed to printer settings.
